2025 Piano Play-In

What is a Suzuki Piano Play-In?

Think of a “symphony” of pianos, all playing in perfect harmony. A Play-In is a wonderful event that showcases one of the core principles of the Suzuki philosophy: the power of review to build ability and confidence. In the Suzuki approach, students share a common repertoire, allowing them to create beautiful music together. Early level students are motivated and inspired by the performances of their more advanced peers. Upper level students have the opportunity to revisit repertoire from previous books and polish their skills, all with the goal of joining the ensemble with their fellow peers. It’s an exciting challenge that pushes them to further refine their technique and musicality.

The Piano Play-In is open to Suzuki piano students of all levels!  Colorado boasts one of the few Piano Play-Ins in the country! Register below!

What pieces should be prepared?

(There is a three-year rotation through most of the pieces in Suzuki Books 1-6.)

Can students use music or do the pieces need to be memorized?

While memorization is certainly encouraged, sometimes intermediate and advanced students are so involved with their current complex pieces that they get behind with reviewing their early-level repertoire. Encourage them to relearn the pieces by reading! Be sure to bring the repertoire to a polished level of performance. Remind students and their parents that review is so healthy!

Can teachers participate?

Yes! Even if you don’t have students participating, teachers can come and play along! It is really so much fun to play with such a large group of pianists. Member teachers do not need to pay a registration fee, but do let us know you are coming. Teachers can email us at information@suzukiassociationcolorado.org

Suggested attire: White shirts for students, black and/or white for teachers (so we look sharp for the pictures.)

Students should contact their teacher with questions. Teachers may contact the Chairperson, Laura Benson (for Denver Play-In) at flowben@hotmail.com; or Wendy Lambrech (for Colorado Springs Play-In) at LambrechMusic@yahoo.com with questions.
